In 1987, our founder Kirk Hankla started International City Mortgage with one primary goal: creating an honest, transparent, and fair process for potential homeowners.
"I remember waking up on the very first morning after I arrived home from William & Mary, my dad was there at the breakfast table and he had the classifieds out. He said 'Hey, here's a company looking for management trainees.' I said ‘Give that to me Dad, I'll go down there tomorrow,' and he said 'No, I think you'll go down there today.' That's how I got in the mortgage business.”
Since that time we’ve made it through the recessions of 1990 and 2001, and the market crash of 2007, weathering the ups and downs by preparing and fortifying our employees and branches ahead of time.
Long Beach, CA, where International City Mortgage started, is called ‘The International City,’ a nickname we loved and incorporated into our own. But as we’ve grown our network of branches into a footprint that now stretches from Honolulu, HI to Tampa, FL, we decided it was time to create a new name that accurately reflects our new identity.
Doorway Home Loans is the name we chose, and we selected it to convey our most important principles to you. Doorway is openness, Doorway is participation, Doorway is friendliness. Doorway gives you control.
Doorway Home Loans: a human company.
